At our last town meeting, residents approved funding crosswalk improvements to follow recommendations of this study now published on the town website. I’ve been advocating for safety improvements since 2008 and made the video below in 2010 in pursuit of a grant application during the early days of our Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Committee. The grant was not approved, but thanks to the work of the committee, the town adopted a Complete Streets policy which helped us win grants for sidewalks and additional bike racks and include pedestrian and bike safety as a consideration in every project moving forward.
I compiled a YouTube playlist of examples of safety improvements; these are over and above what the town has committed to do in terms of making all our existing crosswalks ADA-compliant and to meet a basic level of repair, but they represent the next step, should we continue to invest in safer walking facilities in our town. As a member of the Select Board, I will continue to advocate for these safety measures and work to find the funding to make them a reality.
